Angels are mentioned over 296 times in Bible scriptures. There have been many testimonies from people who have "...entertained angels unaware" as stated in Hebrews 13:2

There are many opinions about what they look like; some think angels are only male even though the book of Proverbs clearly calls the "Spirit of Wisdom" 'SHE". There are those who have testified of having seen angels and some have described them as male and some have described them as female. God created angels to do His work. They are a reflection of His beauty and power. He is altogether lovely and He is all power but He is also a master creator of beauty and even whimsy which you can see just by looking at the array of animals, birds, flowers, etc. I believe angels can show up in whatever form that is needed for their purpose and in a form and look that is needed for their recipient to receive them. 

As God created male and female, each having different qualities of heart and strengths it is the same with angels. It can be seen in the scriptures angels that bring comfort, carry messages, protect, carry prayers, answers to prayers, they help lead man, give him directions, and engage in war to assist those seeking to do God's will. 

"For He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways." Psalms 91:11
